Memories Scrapbooking Expo and Tim Holtz

I had so much fun on March 22nd. My sister and I, along with two of her coworkers, attended the Memories Scrapbooking Expo at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus, Oh. The highlight of the day was the demonstrations done by Tim Holtz. He was there all weekend doing free demos at the Stampers Anonymous booth. It was hard to get near him, but by around 3:30 I was able to get close enough to hear. Someone gave up their chair and I actually got to sit right in front of him! It was fantastic! I love his work and his products-especially distress inks. He was so nice. He was very personable. He seemed to care about his audience and let us ask questions. He asked what we wanted to see and was so very helpful. I asked him to show me how to blend with the distress markers (I have so much trouble with them). He gave me the sample that he did and signed it. I came away with great ideas. Here are some pics.

It was sooo great!! The woman in the pink is my sister's coworker. Her name is Kathy and she is a huge fan of Tim's. I think she sat at his booth nearly all day.

Tim said that the best advice he ever got was "Get over Yourself!" I am not sure exactly what that means since that generally is said to someone cocky and arrogant, but to me it means that I need to get over my fears and just step out of my comfort zone to try new things. This past week I have been trying to do just that. I have been braving to try the ideas that are in my head. So far I think I've been successful. I will share those with you at a later date. Two posts today are plenty.

Have a great Easter!

CDAC teams up with Petaloo

Crafters Digital Art Center (CDAC) has decided to team up with Petaloo flowers to host a contest with some great prizes. You can see my earlier post for details. I almost forgot that tomorrow is the last day to enter, so this morning I put together this card.

The dragonfly is a digital download from Priscilla Heaton, one of the creators of CDAC. One of the contest entries required you to purchase a download from her store, Pattie's Creations, or Nana Vic. Nana Vic has some really great sentiments and digital stamps that I would like to get later, but for now I really liked this dragonfly. I printed him on a transparency, then covered the underside with PK Glitz wonderfilm. I then used PK Glitz Glitter Glitz in colors Azure, Violet, and Sunset. The antenna, eyes, and legs were done using a coating of glossy accents. I mixed Tim Holtz Rock Candy glitter with Pitch Black alcohol ink to make black glitter which I then put over the glossy accents.

The flowers are from Petaloo and are called Floral Embellishments. These particular ones came from the Chantilly Collection I think. The sentiment is from Stampabilities and is stamped with Versamark. I covered it with PK Glitz Stardust in the color Violet. I also sprinkled a little extra Violet Glitter Glitz over it before I set it because I didn't think it had enough color.

I am entering it into two of CDAC Challenges:

Easter Pail

This is my first Easter project this year. I have been concentrating on birthdays and the card kit swap so far this month, but time is running out and I have a couple more things to make before Easter gets here. We try to concentrate more on the religious aspect of what we try to call Resurrection Sunday, but the Easter images from Magnolia are sooo cute! When I received the images from Tabitha during a swap, I knew I somehow had to use the Exclusive Easter Egg image. It is lovely. I chose it for the lid of the pail and mounted it to the die cut with foam tape. Tilda as shepherd is perfect because Jesus is the Lamb of God. The DP was a free download from Bearly Mine. You can access the site via my sidebar if you would like to get your own. She has some very nice paper to download for free as well as purchase. The poem is my own creation. God stuck it in my head during worship service a couple of weeks ago and I wrote it down. I guess technically that makes it God's creation via me. The cross is the final freebie from Avadares. They are closing their site after this last challenge and moving on to other things. I wish them all the best in their future endeavors. A white pearl pen, stickles, and gem flowers make up the embellishments, as well as ribbon tape from J & Bobbin (?). I bought it last year at the Memories Expo in Columbus, Ohio along with some other "Washi" type tape. The box contains mostly Korean wording, so I am not sure that is the right brand. I am running out so I hope this company is there again. The expo is this coming Friday. Oh, I also used glossy accents on the egg's flowers.

Variation of Erin Go Braugh

I wasn't sure whether or not I liked the coloring on my die cut image on the front of this card, so I did another one all in green for a more monochromatic look. I would be interested in your opinion as to which one you think looks better.

Here is the original card:

Here is the variation:

I also used the no line technique on Tilda. I don't like it as well because you can't see the "love" written across the bottoms of her shoes and the details of the shirt and arms are missing. It just doesn't have that sharp quality that using the black ink has.

What do you think-more realistic rainbow and sky or the green monochromatic?

Erin, Go Bragh

I have no idea what that means, but it is on one of the elements of this card. I am participating in my first Magnolia-licious Mingle. The theme was St. Patrick's Day or use green. I did both as you can see.

This was such a fun card to do. In visiting a blog I discovered from her that Gina's Designs was giving away St. Patrick's Day freebies. I hopped right over and downloaded mine. I used several of them on this card. The sketch is from this week's Mojo Monday challenge. There are also some other challenges that I have discovered for this card as well. Here are some close ups so you can see the great elements.

Now the inside of the card:

Nearly of the elements I used came from Gina: The music background (which is Oh Danny Boy), the tickets, and the large, inside picture. I printed another music background in order to cut out the shamrocks at the top. The die and Tilda covered some of it up and I wanted it to be more visible. I popped it up with foam tape and then used stickles to make it shine. The picture and the tickets have some wonderful sayings. I wish you could see them. The letter on the big pic is especially nice.

The die is from Lifestyle Crafts and the digi image on it is another freebie that I got a couple of months ago from Avadare's challenge blog. In visiting their blog site, I discovered that this month will be their final challenge as they are moving on to different things. I want to participate, so I will have to hurry. Their new challenge is Easter or Spring and ends the 21st. They have a new freebie to grab also. I colored the image with copics and layered Tilda with Lovely Lace Shoes and the pot of gold. I put a shamrock bouquet against Tilda. The hat, pot, and bouquet came from a web site called Clipartof.com.

Keianna's Birthday Card

Have you ever had the feeling that God gave you an idea for a particular creation at a particular time? That is how I feel in regards to this card. I give the credit to God for the design and most of the color choices for this card. My granddaughter turns 3 tomorrow. For a week now I have been trying to get this card made. As I worked this past weekend on my other projects, I kept thinking about how I wanted to do a card for her with a number 3. I bought Tilda with Blue Blanket because she looks so much like Keianna. Keianna always carries a red fleece blanket around. She calles it "Loo". She started with a Winnie the Pooh crib blanket, but outgrew it. When she gets tired she sucks her thumb. This image is perfect for her. I knew the blanket in the image would be red. But I didn't really know what else to do. The blanket was colored and then it sat for a couple days. I got it back out and decided to offset the red with yellow. I wanted a cheery look. Ideas are running through my head when low and behold I stumbled onto some bloghops with challenges that are perfect for my card.

The first one was from Cupcake Inspirations. They have a blog hop and challenge ending at noon on March 9th celebrating their 200th challenge. We were to pick one of the past challenges and create a project. Here is the cupcake picture that I chose. It is challenge #4.

The coloring went along with what I had in mind and I had a heart doily that I could use. I just included some hearts in different colors to my card.

Then yesterday I stumbled onto another blog hop and challenge at Ladybug Crafts. They have a new set of digis that they are releasing along with the challenge Add A Number. Perfect for the number 3 that I wanted to include.

Finally I was checking the blog candy giveaways that I have in my sidebar. I visited Floral Fantasies and saw that her picture was red poppies with a red and yellow butterfly. She is having a 4000 follower giveaway to those who follow her blog and are inspired by her creativity. She does beautiful things with flowers. We are supposed to create a project and explain what in her blog inspires us. I love her work. She uses flowers on everything and I love to use flowers too. I just don't use them as often as I would like since I don't have a very big stash. The red and yellow made me feel that I should participate, so I added the flowers in those colors to my card.

Keianne, like all little kids, loves pull tags and flap books, and pop-up books. I figured that she would like a tag to pull out of her card. I am not please with it, but I just couldn't figure out what to do with it. And finally, I was looking at someone's blog (I don't remember who) and saw that she had beautifully decorated the inside of the card I was looking at. I never think to do that, but it allowed me to remember to do it to this card.

Here are some pics of Keianna:

I wish I had a picture of her with her blanket, but I don't (at least not on my camera). Now here is my card:

All of the inside elements except flowers and sentiment, as well as the tag, were done using the Art Philosophy cricut cartridgs. The solid red piece is the insides of the the red frame on the green cutout. The scallop circle is a die from Life Style Crafts. The green cardstock is from Color Cor'dinations. The image is from from Magnolia Stamps. The leaf die is also from Magnolia. I think it is called Heart Swirl. The paper heart doily is sprayed with Ritzy Ditz by PK Glitz. The flowers, image, and random hearts are colored with copics. I also used different Stickles. I didn't like the whiteness of the circle, so I used a light pink glitter chalk to tone down the brightness. The dots around the heart cutout on the tag are done using a white pearl pen. I also used it to dot the i's in the sentiment (which came from the Scrapbooking Queen).

Here are the links to the challenges:

Thanks for stopping by. I hope to have another card tomorrow that I need to make for the Magnolia-licious Mingle.

A Busy Weekend

I was thinking about this post yesterday and I realized how busy March is going to be in the way of all the projects I need to do. Since I work 35 hours a week and babysit my granddaughter at least one evening (along with everything else on my agenda), I usually only have time for projects on the weekends. When I thought of all the birthday, Easter, and challenge projects that I want to do, all I could say to myself was "Wow! How am I going to get it all done?" Housework suffers terribly. This weekend for example, I made a birthday card for my daughter, a get well card for a coworker's husband who suffered a heart attack, and a 6X6 canvas as a door prize for a dinner that our church put on. I tried to do it all on Saturday because I had the church dinner Saturday night and my niece's birthday party on Sunday as well as church services Sunday morning and night. Thankfully, I already did Alexandra's card in Feb. when I mass produced. Here are the pics of everything.

This is the card that I made for my daughter. She is 24 today. Happy birthday Alia! This is an easel card. I wanted to make a pop up card, but really did not know how to do it. If you follow my blog regularly, you see me complain about dial up internet. It really limits what you can do. I cannot just go onto YouTube and watch a tutorial. I cannot load any kind of video at all. I really had to think about how to make my little cat image (which was a free coloring page image) pop up when I set up the card. I finally decided to attach a piece of ribbon to the back of the cat and the back of the card front. I never did get it placed correctly, but it did make the image stand up. For some reason, the card front did not want to catch on the inside layers so that it would stand. I had to put a tag in there to hold it up. I used my new Tilda lace die from Magnolia for the first time. I really like it and will probably use it a lot. I made my own "Washi" tape by using Scor Tape and tissue paper. I put the tissue paper onto the tape, then inked and stamped it. The striped tape was made by using a ticking background stamp by Just Right. You can't see it, but I used glossy accents on the cat's glasses to make it look like glass. I added yellow stickles to the little cat's hat and the ribbon on the box, also some to the stripes on the hat box. I put little drops of stickles on the punched sentiment. A rhinestone flower on the tag also adds some bling even though you can barely see it here.

This is the CAS card that I made for my coworker's husband. This is for the Magnolia-licious Challenge Blog's challenge All About Boys. I used Soccer Edwin with the goal background stamp. I colored Edwin with copics and the background with Prisma colored pencils and gamisol (thank Heaven I found it). Silver stickles is on the goal posts. I used a fine tip marker and extended the lines and drew in more "clouds" to cover the card. I printed the sentiment on the computer and hand drew the cloud around it. Copic grays give some highlight. I glued paper to the back of the button and used a copic to color the jute twine. The grass was cut out using my Sportsmania cricut cartridge. This is the canvas. Believe it or not, it was the quickest and easiest to do. It only took me about as hour. I used Tim Holtz music tissue paper and his Reindeer Flight stamp set. The stamping was done in black Staz-on and the coloring was done with distress ink. Stickles and rhinestones add glitter and shine.
