I found this adorable image at Stitchy Bear's Digi Outlet. It is called "Scrapping" and is by an artist called Digi Blessings. When I saw the sentiments that went with it, I knew I had to have it. It fits me to a tee! I just happen to win a fantastic prize from Stencil Girl so I decided to try my very first Mixed Media Canvas. I had all these ideas and thought it would go together fairly quickly (even though I had no idea what I was doing). I won a $25 gift certificate from Stencil Girl along with some great products by Art-C. 

One of the things I won was a tool called The Groove. I had never seen or heard of it before Stencil Girl's blog hop. It is such a nifty tool. I wanted to use the stuff I won. This is going to be loaded with pictures.

The Groove paints, inks, and sands. I tried painting the canvas and then using gesso on a stencil. I also used it to sand the edges of my canvas and grungepaper. It really did a fantastic job and was very easy to use and clean.

 I have fallen in love with the concept of Art Journaling and mixed media. I have found some incredible blogs. Although I do not have the time or artistic ability, I wanted to try my hand at my own type of Art Journaling using a canvas instead of an actual journal. As you can see my canvas is full of different things. I wanted it to tell a story about me. I am left-handed so I included the left-handed stencil. I like script background, bling, and glitter so I incorporated those also. Teal is one of my favorite colors but I wanted the hand and "face" to be flesh colored. I love glitter, hence the glittery leaves and stickles on the flowers. I gave everything a final mist of Mr. Huey's Shine for a shimmery appeal. I tore the flowers apart and replaced the stamens with Rhinestones and a Tim Holtz Accoutrement button. I sanded the edges and inked them with Vintage Photo. The flowers started out cream colored. I sprayed them with Ritzy Ditz Glimmer mist. The butterflies are cut out of an aluminum can.

I used all 3 image sentiments. One of them is very small on the mouse's scrapbook page.

No Tricks Just Treats

Today I am posting a little treat bucket that I decorated for my guardian angel at church. Our guardian angel program is one in which the adult participants are given the name of a child in Junior High and High School. We pray for them daily and occasionally provide small gifts or cards to let them know that they are being thought of and prayed for. My husband and I are blessed to be praying for a lovely young lady in Jr. High.

Although we typically do not celebrate Halloween I couldn't resist the chance to use this Eleanor and Pickles image Ve Vant Candy from Lacy Sunshine. I just adore Heather's images.

My teen loves pink and glitter, so I tried to incorporate both. The pumpkin image is part of one called Pumpkin Topiary by Scribbles Designs. I cropped the image down to just the top pumpkin. I resized and printed 3 different ones, colored and fussy cut them all. I added clear embossing glitter from Sparkle N Sprinkle to them to make them more sturdy. I made a spider from a button and jute. The black legs didn't show up so I put some pink stickles on them to make them more visible. I stamped the words No Tricks Just Treats on a Tim Holtz Acrylic shape and added embossing glitter to the back of it.

I chose for this this challenge SLS image Goth Girl with Top Hat. She is colored with Copics and PrismaColor pencils. I love seeing steampunk creations, but it is not something that I am good at doing myself. Still, I like to experiment sometimes. There are some great embellishments that go with steampunk creations, but if you are like me you hate running the risk of putting all that money into something that someone will just throw away. So many people that I know just are not sentimental  and do not look at cards as the pieces of art that they are. They get them, keep them a few days and throw them away. I don’t want to spend money on something that will be thrown away.

My card is my first double gate fold. I used the tutorial over at Split Coast Stampers. The Tim Holtz paper reminds me of the tags with the sizes on them that manufacturers used to put in these kind of hats. Check out the little piece of ribbon that I used as a hat band. That took a little work lol. I had to paper piece the hat. I also used the side piece of DP as a pocket. I cut down a Doohickey tag and stuck it in. For the hat on the inside I had to draw a base so that it did not have any hair or face. I glued the image onto the base and then popped the brim with foam tape. I also used Glossy Accent on the glasses.

My version of Tim's September Tag

I just love Tim Holtz’s work, don’t you? Since I don’t have internet at home except for through my phone, I cannot follow his blog the way I would like to or participate in his classes. I stumbled across his post for his September tag. I didn’t realize that he did these every month. When I saw it had a tutorial with a lot of good mediums being used I knew I wanted to try it. I had to order most of the stuff though. Scrapbook.com was having a sale on everything so it was basically like getting free shipping plus a little extra off. That was nice-and they had everything that I needed. It was SO HARD to wait for my stuff to come!

Anyway, my stuff finally arrived and I could get started. I don’t have the stamp set that he used but an idea had come to me that I wanted to try with my own stamps. I followed Tim’s tutorial but evidently did not put my alcohol inks onto the craft sheet properly. Instead of getting each individual color on my glossy paper, the colors blended to make some beautiful shades of blue. I tried it two other times and got shades of purple. I liked the blue better so I used it. I also discovered that the frosted is thick and doesn’t die cut well. I ran it through the Vagabond twice but it did not cut clear through. I had to use scissors. One other problem that I had was when I tried to ink my flowers, the black ink disappeared. I had to reink it by putting the stamp facing up and very carefully lining up the cutout with the stamp. It wasn’t too difficult. It lined up easily thank goodness. 

I love my tag! It was so much fun! The only thing I wish I would have done differently is leaving off the black soot spritz. I liked it better before I spritzed it. I still love it though! So much texture and dimension! You can see Tim's tag Here.

It's Anything Goes at Love to Scrap

Hi everybody! I just finished watching the Buckeyes squeak by Northern Illinois. It’s the first game I’ve gotten to watch since I don’t have satellite or cable TV. The Buckeyes are still undefeated and have won 16 straight games. Go Bucks!!

I was so excited to see that Sparkle N Sprinkle was the sponsor that I get to represent. I love their glitter and embossing powders but have never worked with their images before. They have a lot of great stamps to choose from. The image I chose is called Across the Miles. It comes with an adorable image and 5 sentiments. I've used the sentiment “Missing You” for this card. I made it with thoughts of my son who is still in Virginia Beach on the Naval Base. If you are not into the male aspect of this card, they have one like it with a little girl. It is just as cute and is called Just a Little Note. I wanted to do a whole stationary set with a decorated box and lots of cards but I have been laid up with an injured ankle. I spent a week and a half on crutches and couldn’t get around well enough to do anything extensive. I didn’t have the time to do what I wanted, but I sure am pleased with my card.

I thought about incorporating SNS glitter or embossing powder into this project, but my son doesn’t really like all that girly stuff. Instead I just added a little Stickles and Scrappy Cat glitter glue to the flowers, hanky, mail flag, and hat button. I also used my Gellyroll green stardust glitter pen on the grass of the flowers. Here it is:

This is my first Latch card. I  was shocked at how easy it was. I printed the image and sentiment onto white cardstock and then printed a second image to cut out. I colored everything with my Distress Markers and ink pads. Every time I color with my Distress Markers I never like how it turns out so I have to get out my nibs and stamp pads to make it looks smoother and make lighter shades in places. Distress Markers are not really for blending, although sometimes you can pull it off.

I covered the base piece with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink using my mini blending tool. I then roughly colored the boy and flowers just in case parts of it showed through after I popped up my other image. I tried to shade and highlight the mailbox because it was not being covered. I then took the second image and colored and fussy cut the boy and flowers to pop with foam tape. (I love foam tape!) Before I popped the image though I put a picket fence and grass (Both Magnolia Doohickey dies) across the base. I placed the boy and flowers over them. I wanted a fall look so I added some leaves from a couple of sets that I had on hand. I stamped some of them in the sky and then fussy cut the ones on the ground.

My latch is cut using a small frame from the Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Frames 3 set. The plaid paper is from the DCWV Sweater Weather pack. I used my Plantin Schoolbook Cricut Cartridge and cut out a 1” envelope into which I placed a small piece of white cardstock with a heart on it.

The inside is a piece of white cardstock that I inked with distress ink and stamped with a leaf border from Fiskars.

Do a Double Take over at the LTSCB

I am working with Back to School Desk from The Stamping Boutique. Since I work at a school and school has just recently started, this is quite a fitting image for me. Here is my creation for this great challenge:

 

This is my first swing card. I had to do some adjusting to the tutorial that I found at Split Coast Stampers because my die was too small. Click here for the original tutorial. It wasn't perfect, but it turned out okay. It was a fun project. I discovered that the oval die wasn't perfectly symmetrical so it didn't line up 100% correctly, but it was close. The paper is from My Minds Eye and the charms are so old that I don't remember where they came from. I got these alphabet brads as a prize for completing my local library's summer reading program for adults. They were perfect for this. "Enjoy" was from a stamp set by Close to My Heart. The scalloped and regular oval dies are nestabilities from Spellbinders. I want to try this kind of card again with a bigger die to see what will happen.
